9 THE  ART OBSERVER May 2008 money for a lorry to Poland and hold an art exhibition showing the work of artists in the north- west. Art Aid raised enough money in a weekend to take three full lorries to Poland. I joined the board of Norton Priory Museum Trust in 2003. The museum built on the ruins of an eleventh century priory has an extensive archaeological museum inside and out, a large wood and a Victorian walled garden. It is always a challenge to have an exhibition that will get people to all sites, so in 2005 I organised the Catwalk Exhibition. An artist designed concrete cat sculptures and 40 of these cats were painted by artists from Cheshire Artists Network(CAN) with all different designs and put around the walled garden A catwalk map was provided to find them all. Other cat paintings etc were exhibited in the foyer of the museum. It was a huge success with the public. At the end of the summer the cats were auc- tioned off, and a percentage of the proceeds donated to the local hospice. Artists from CAN also did workshops at the museum and the hospice. I don’t have a favourite project. Each project has a tremendous amount of teamwork involved whether I am running it or help- ing others. I’m just very pleased when all the hard work involved results in a successful exhibition. To what extent are you still involved with the ‘Cheshire Artists Network’? I am on the committee of Cheshire Artists Network(CAN) and therefore very involved in its activities, especially now in 2008. To celebrate Cheshire’s Year of Gardens, CAN are collab- orating with local arts officers in all the boroughs across Cheshire and putting on exhibitions, workshops, and installations throughout the county, many in gardens. This is a huge undertak- ing and we are all working hard to make it a success. As part of the Cheshire Year of Gardens, I am also organising another exhibition at Norton Priory. This is called The Snail Trail. Artists from CAN are painting 40 snails for the walled garden, birdboxes for the woods, and garden paintings for the museum foyer. There will be an auction of the snails in September for Halton Hospice. What are you working on now? Paintings and prints and snails for the Cheshire Year of the Garden exhibitions. What are your plans for the future? In April 2008, I have been invit- ed to be Artist in Residence for the Masterworks Foundation in Bermuda for three months. I am provided with a studio, a bus pass and a ferry pass. I have been asked to open the studio to the public one day a week and to do some workshops with children and adults. At the end of the three months I will have a solo exhibition in the Masterworks Foundation Gallery which is purpose built and very beautiful. Time will be at a premium and so I am trying to do some prints in my studio here, from some sketches and photos I made on a previous visit to Bermuda. Life is very busy and an ongoing challenge. Fortunately I have a wonderful husband who enjoys cooking!
