During the first two days that the exhibition opened to the public a further ten paintings were sold, leaving only five paintings available for sale.   A further painting sold on the third day of the exhibition - and then there were four ….. and so it went on. Ian’s previous solo show at the same gallery last year had also proved to be very successful with fifteen paintings selling on the opening night, and many more paintings selling through- out the exhibition. Being cautious before his latest show Ian didn’t want to raise his hopes of having another such positive response to his work; he needn’t have worried - it was even better this time.   Ian Jarman has developed his own technique of portraying the urban landscape through atmospheric and evocative mixed media paintings. This technique provides a certain transparency to his paintings, adding depth and sensitivity. Once a very successful and talented graphic artist, Ian’s desire to pursue and develop his own style resulted in him breaking away from the restraints of the commercial world and finding his own means of self-expression. His solid grounding has stood him in good stead. Ian knows how to draw. This knowledge gives him the authority and confidence to apply artistic licence where necessary or create a composition with the mere hint of a shape that leaves the rest to our imagination. Those who missed this exciting exhibition will be able to see one or two of Ian’s paintings in the summer exhibition at the same gallery during August and are promised another chance to see his work at his next solo show which is already being planned. But a word of advice - try to get there early! Ian Jarman exhibition is a sellout
