4  THE ART OBSERVER July 2006 Contact: Ed Johnson Mobile: 07973 614661 Land Line:  0161 614 1947 Email: premierphotographics@orange.net Manchester takes Liam Spencer to Cannes Update on Liam Spencer Following on from his extremely successful solo show at the Wendy Levy gallery last autumn, Liam has been keeping busy with various projects. He was approached by Marketing Manchester to showcase his work at the MIPIM exhibition in Cannes during March of this year. Cities from all over the world are represented at the exhibition with a view to attracting leading property developers. In the past, Marketing Manchester has used photographs of selected key places of the city for this purpose. This year, however, they wanted to try a different approach and Liam’s paintings were chosen to represent Manchester. It is his ability to capture a colourful slice of Mancunian life which attracted Marketing Manchester to Liam’s work. They felt his ability to portray the city’s vibrancy would introduce a very attractive element to the exhibition. It proved to be very successful. The City of Manchester is again acknowledging the importance of Liam Spencer by mounting a retrospective exhibition of the artists work at   the Manchester Art Gallery from 8th July to the 24th September. This exhibition will comprise of paintings which have been borrowed back from private collections and some from the artist’s own collection. None of the paintings will be for sale. Titled “From Manchester to Shanghai”, the exhibition will include some of his well known Manchester scenes as well as newer pieces produced following his visit to the Far East. This exhibition is sure to attract a large number of people as Liam’s work has become increasingly popular over the last five years. Liam Spencer’s paintings have again increased in value with his prices starting at around £2,900. He is currently working towards a shared exhibition scheduled in London towards the end of this year. His next solo show will be at the Wendy Levy Gallery in September 2007.
