9   THE ART OBSERVER bidders were “timed-out” as they each tried to make their bid the final one, sadly being “timed-out” as the auction page automatically closed at the elected time. One such bid was for £15,000! This signifies Liam’s continuing and ever increasing popularity.” As ever, Liam remained modest about his achievements and donated part of the proceeds to his chosen charity, 5 Stars Scanner Appeal. In March of this year Liam was the subject of a two-page feature by Carol Midgley in The Times T2 Supplement, in which Carol emphasised the fact that Liam’s work has such a broad appeal to the “man in the street”. Liam has found this fact extremely encour- aging. As well as finding that his paintings are being snapped up by avid art collectors, he also finds that people who had never previously bought, or even been attracted to the notion of buying art, are being moved to buy his paintings. In June some of Liam’s paintings were included in a special exhibition of “Drawings and Paintings by L.S. Lowry and Northern Artists” cementing his position in the hierarchy of the north west artists. In conjunction with this exhibition there appeared, in the ‘Manchester Evening News’, an article on Liam Spencer, by Rachel Pugh, suggesting that Liam Spencer has continued where L.S. Lowry left off and emphasising Liam’s pleasure at the growing Manchester art scene. Whilst Liam Spencer is obviously at the forefront of this scene, he remains refreshingly himself, always coming back to the reason why he wanted and continues to want to paint. There are now ten signed limited edition prints available by Liam Spencer, the latest of which is a stunning picture of ‘Times Square’ in New York. For more information on the books and the prints visit: www.wendyjlevy-art.com or contact the gallery by email: wendy@wendyjlevy-art.com or telephone: 0161 446 4880. With the culmination of this most successful exhibition and auction, Liam Spencer has enjoyed an eventful and constructive 12 months in his thriving artistic career. At the end of 2004 Wendy J Levy Contemporary Art Ltd published the first book on this artist. The book, entitled “Liam Spencer - Painting from Life” was produced in both hard back and soft back versions, both being limited editions.Wendy Levy commissioned Judy Rose to write the book after nurturing the idea in her head for about a year. “I am indebted to Judy for all her hard work on the book and for making the dream come true. I was finding it increasingly difficult to find the time to write the book myself. I was delighted when, having discussed it with Judy, she agreed to take on the task. She has written a book that all, who have read it, have enjoyed.  The book is selling well from our website and from the gallery. Bookshops and art galleries have bought copies of the book as well as schools and colleges who are stocking up their art department libraries. The number of students currently undertaking projects about Liam Spencer and his work is ever increasing, especially at the moment with the topic of “Cities” being on the ‘A’ level syllabus this year.” Buy the book of Liam Spencer Painting from Life December 2005
