A variety of subject matter; landscape, urban scapes, coastal and sea scenes, portraiture and nature inspires Alan. He employs a variety of media in his work, depending on the subject matter, primarily oils and oil pastels, and occasionally watercolours.

Originally inspired by his grandfather, who was an amateur water colourist, his interest in painting continued to the point where Art College was the obvious destination on leaving school. After graduating from Manchester Polytechnic, Alan's life took another turn and he moved to Liverpool. Here, he set up an engraving business to support his young family. He continued to paint, taking part in local exhibitions with some success. During the last four years, Alan has been able to focus more of my time and energy to his art, exhibiting in one man and group shows, in Manchester and Liverpool.
