Colin Taylor was born in July 1960, in Leicester, England.  He attended Loughborough College of Art and then Trent Polytechnic (now Nottingham Trent University) where he took a Multi-disciplinary Degree course in Fine Art and Drama, after which, in 1988, he moved to Manchester.

His paintings and drawings reflect his keen interest in mountaineering. He has undertaken mountaineering expeditions to South America and Asia and has exhibited his paintings extensively throughout the U.K. as well as in Sweden and France.

Colin has been working on a re-interpretation of Thomas West’s original viewing ‘stations’ adapted from ‘A guide to the Lakes of Cumberland, Westmorland and Lancashire’ published in 1778. West’s guide is generally accepted to have been the first tourist guide and in it he describes twenty-one locations (stations) around the main lakes from whereupon one can ‘obtain the most advantageous view of the land’.  In April 2007, using a contemporary OS map and a copy of the book, Colin began to visit each ‘station’ and in response began to produce a series of paintings and drawings that is currently ongoing and is already planned to be shown as a touring exhibition at five venues throughout England during 2008 and 2009.
